“Our former house near Hanover, was “way too small!” says Teresa Winkler. “Our family includes three energetic sons ranging from 2 to 18…a husband who needs a home office…out-of-town grandparents who like to visit…as well as three cats and two dogs! We’d been scouting the area for a home that met our needs, but couldn’t find anything that really “worked.” We loved it here in Pennsylvania, but were planning to relocate to Raleigh, North Carolina. Then I talked to a friend who lived in High Pointe North, a J.A. Myers Homes community, beautifully located south of Hanover, Pa. She mentioned that lovely, large building lots were available in Whispering Run (another J.A. Myers neighborhood, also in South Hanover.) As soon as possible, we took a drive through the neighborhood and somewhere along the way we were hopelessly smitten by its scenic beauty and charm. We decided that if we could find a suitably-sized lot, we’d stay in PA and let J.A. Myers build for us. The Avenel and Congressional Model Home were our favorite picks. The Avenel was a larger home, but the Congressional had features we loved. That’s when we learned the most amazing thing about J.A. Myers Homes….. CHOICES!! In every stage of buying and building there were CHOICES! We could choose the square footage of our home.  We could increase the size of the rooms (in fact the size of the entire house!)  We could choose a walk-out basement…add an office…and even move the position of the sunroom so that it opened to the world-class kitchen that would feature the appliances and cabinetry of our choosing! We met with Ben Myers and our salesperson named Lisa to finalize the blueprints and select our materials. We were so pleased with the standard finishes and other choices we could make that, in most instances we didn’t even need to upgrade! J.A. Myers actually WANTS their buyers to customize and upgrade their models…which, we learned, did not always increase our building price. Lisa was a gem! She always responded promptly to questions and requests…and didn’t even blink an eye when we asked to add a wet bar late in the plans. The J.A. Myers foremen were great too! Every one listened to our ideas and made them happen with courtesy and ease. We were also happy with Myers’s choice of suppliers for lighting fixtures and other decorative items. They also cheerfully issued credit for the things that I ordered from suppliers other than the one they provided. Their selection of doors and windows is amazing. For these there was no need to shop elsewhere!  We were also able to have the exterior stone in a custom color! A cute little “cat door,” our front porch, the angled stairway to the second floor and our beautiful sunroom are some of our friends’ favorites. We love them too! We were very happy with the building process!  Sure there were a few minor issues along the way, but these were quickly and professionally handled. We were told the building process would take three to four months. Everything was finished in a little over 90 days! Our J.A. Myers home is bigger, brighter and easier to live in than we ever imagined a home could be!  Our boys love it!  Myers even attempted to do something for us that they’d never done before: They  placed an inlaid carpet in the center of our family room’s wooden floor! It looks great and our aging dog, Bill, loves the softness as he relaxes with the family. Myers is open to your suggestions and if your requests can be done….J. A.
