Their custom Chadwick model in High Point North is the second J. A. Myers home for Bob and Sharon Young. From 2001 until mid-2013, the couple lived in a two-story Oakmont model in the Myers Allwood Manor community. When they decided to make the change to one-story living, the Chadwick model was tops on their list. While they liked the exterior and the general design of the Chadwick interior, they’d seen how J. A. Myers could make changes in any home to please the buyer…and they began to “customize!” First they changed the formal living room space to a home office. Next, they made a few modifications to the huge, open family room, breakfast room and kitchen, which included moving a closet into the laundry room and adding more counter space in the kitchen. In the second and third bedroom area the Youngs asked to relocate the bathroom so that is was between the bedrooms for easier access and more privacy for their guests. The change also gave them more space in the breakfast room. The biggest structural changes were the addition of two feet to the front of the garage, two feet to the left side of the house, two feet to the rear bedroom and the breakfast nook and a third garage! Bob Young was adamant about the placement of this garage. He didn’t want it to look like it had simply been “stuck on the end of the house.” The J.A. Myers architects and carpenters worked with the roof line and the exterior appearance to meet Mr. Young’s specifications….”I am very happy…even proud of the outcome,” smiles Bob Young. “ “One of the best things about J. A. Myers Homes are the options,” say the Youngs. “ For example, a Myers building contract allows “x number” of windows per house. What type and where you want them is YOUR choice!” “ You can also choose your heating system. We wanted a tankless hot water heater and a recirculating pump. This was, of course, an upgrade, but there was no hesitation and no problem with the install by the Myers’s crew. There was also an allowance for kitchen appliances, if the buyer chose other than the standard items. We knew exactly what we wanted in the kitchen and, although the allowance didn’t completely cover the cost of our appliance choices, it surely helped” “Their thoughtfulness in providing this option was very much appreciated.” the Youngs say, with satisfied smiles. “Perhaps our most wonderful surprise was the basement,” the Youngs continue. “ We do not plan to finish the huge space as additional living space. When we arrived for our final walkthrough, however, we found that the entire basement had been snugly insulated. Insulating the basement was a wonderful energy-saving idea and we are grateful to Myers Homes for their thoughtfulness!” “We were also happy with the automatic garage door opener that was installed on the third garage door.” says Bob. “ It works perfectly for my oversized truck!” The Young’s were also very pleased that Joseph Myers personally took time to share his 50+ years of experience in planning communities when they were choosing their building lot. “Joe took time to thoroughly explain why the Chadwick model wouldn’t look good on our first choice of lots.” He then took them to see the lot that he felt would better enhance the Chadwick’s features and took time to explain his reasoning. “Now, as we drive by our first choice lot, it’s very easy to see that Joe was right…we are very happy with our location and with our builder, who took the time to show us the difference!”
