“I’m most impressed with J. A. Myers for their quality and attention to detail. Many of my wishes were ‘standard’ in my villa!”
ON BUYING MY VILLA AT JACKSON HEIGHTS: It was all about ME
Why did you choose a J. A. Myers Villa?
It was so easy! I could choose what I wanted! The whole process was fun! How could buying a new home be “all fun?” I knew what I liked and wanted. Amazingly, many of the things I wanted were already standards in a J. A. Myers villa! This was not the case with other homes and builders.
What do you like most about the Villas and Jackson Heights?
I’m in the country, yet convenient to shopping, towns and cities and major routes to almost anywhere. I love the sense of solitude. It’s an active, vibrant community; but not too active. Some communities want you to be a part of everything. Here, we’ve all introduced ourselves and converse, but give ourselves plenty of “space!”
How’s the grounds keeping service?
It’s one of the best features of living in the villas! I can watch them do the job…and they do it well…but I don’t have to help! Everything always looks nice. Best part: we can still putter around in the flower beds, and on porches and patios.
What impresses you most about J. A. Myers Homes?
Their quality. Their attention to detail. They are very easy to work with. I wanted a tankless hot water heater…I paid for the upgrade and they installed it perfectly…no problem. They are easy to work with. Your questions are answered…alternate ideas might be given…but ultimately it was all about WHAT I WANTED! IT WAS ALL ABOUT ME!
“We were so pleased with the standard finishes and other choices we could make that we didn’t need to upgrade!”
“Our former house near Hanover, was “way too small!” says Teresa Winkler. “Our family includes three energetic sons ranging from 2 to 18…a husband who needs a home office…out-of-town grandparents who like to visit…as well as three cats and two dogs!
We’d been scouting the area for a home that met our needs, but couldn’t find anything that really “worked.” We loved it here in Pennsylvania, but were planning to relocate to Raleigh, North Carolina. Then I talked to a friend who lived in High Pointe North, a J.A. Myers Homes community, beautifully located south of Hanover, Pa. She mentioned that lovely, large building lots were available in Whispering Run (another J.A. Myers neighborhood, also in South Hanover.) As soon as possible, we took a drive through the neighborhood and somewhere along the way we were hopelessly smitten by its scenic beauty and charm. We decided that if we could find a suitably-sized lot, we’d stay in PA and let J.A. Myers build for us.
The Avenel and the Congressional were our favorite picks. The Avenel was a larger home, but the Congressional had features we loved. That’s when we learned the most amazing thing about J.A. Myers Homes…..
CHOICES!! In every stage of buying and building there were CHOICES! We could choose the square footage of our home. We could increase the size of the rooms (in fact the size of the entire house!) We could choose a walk-out basement…add an office…and even move the position of the sunroom so that it opened to the world-class kitchen that would feature the appliances and cabinetry of our choosing!
We met with Ben Myers and our salesperson named Lisa to finalize the blueprints and select our materials. We were so pleased with the standard finishes and other choices we could make that, in most instances we didn’t even need to upgrade! J.A. Myers actually WANTS their buyers to customize and upgrade their models…which, we learned, did not always increase our building price.
Lisa was a gem! She always responded promptly to questions and requests…and didn’t even blink an eye when we asked to add a wet bar late in the plans. The J.A. Myers foremen were great too! Every one listened to our ideas and made them happen with courtesy and ease. We were also happy with Myers’s choice of suppliers for lighting fixtures and other decorative items. They also cheerfully issued credit for the things that I ordered from suppliers other than the one they provided.
Their selection of doors and windows is amazing. For these there was no need to shop elsewhere! We were also able to have the exterior stone in a custom color!
A cute little “cat door,” our front porch, the angled stairway to the second floor and our beautiful sunroom are some of our friends’ favorites. We love them too!
We were very happy with the building process! Sure there were a few minor issues along the way, but these were quickly and professionally handled. We were told the building process would take three to four months. Everything was finished in a little over 90 days!
Our J.A. Myers home is bigger, brighter and easier to live in than we ever imagined a home could be! Our boys love it! Myers even attempted to do something for us that they’d never done before: They placed an inlaid carpet in the center of our family room’s wooden floor! It looks great and our aging dog, Bill, loves the softness as he relaxes with the family.
Myers is open to your suggestions and if your requests can be done….J. A. Myers is the builder who will do it for you!
“We totally trusted the J. A. Myers Homes staff. We gave them the keys after we’d moved in, so that they could do some extra things.”
Nancy Fream began collecting floor plans for her “dream house” while still a child. When she met Greg, her future husband, she discovered the he, too, had a keen interest in building a custom home some day. Their marriage was the first step down the path to fulfilling their dreams for a home that would be “truly theirs!”
Two sons and 25 years later, their dream has become a reality. They spent their early years visiting model homes and later looking at floor plans on line. They wanted a one-story home, featuring a generous amount of stonework…a 3-car heated garage with a craftsman-style workbench…a huge laundry room and storage space for out-of-season or seldom-used items and a large open living and entertaining area where friends and family could gather in comfort.
“When we saw the J. A. Myers’ Whispering Run neighborhood, in south Hanover, we knew it was the perfect place for our dream home,” says Nancy. But the Freams actually put holds on three different lots in Whispering Run before they settled on the final location, which is surrounded by common areas, assuring that their beautiful country views will never be obscured by a neighboring house.
At their first meeting, Greg and Nancy showed Ben Myers a floor plan they’d found on line. “Ben immediately ‘got into’ the plan and caught our vision!” say the Freams. “It was a remarkable four-month adventure. We couldn’t be happier!”
The couple confess to making many change orders along the way and still marvel at Ben’s agreeable attitude and his deep desire to build for them the home of their dreams. “He never said, ‘we can’t do that’ say the Freams with delightful satisfaction.
Greg and Nancy are originally from Maryland and lived there during the building process, but they say that email and text communication kept the 30-mile trips to South Hanover to a minimum. “We totally trusted J. A. Myers Homes and their staff. We felt comfortable giving them the keys, even after we moved in, so they could complete some things we wanted to add.
Building a custom home “from scratch” is a daunting adventure for both builder and buyer; and the Fream’s home-building experience was not without incident. When choosing the stone for the home’s exterior, Greg and Nancy chose a beautiful blue/gray sample of stacked stone. Nancy stopped by the building site one day and to her surprise, she saw that the stone appeared “pink!” Of course, she called Ben Myers on the spot and his quick response solved the problem. The stone they had chosen did, indeed, contain pink hues; but they did not show on the builder’s sample. Ben had the stone removed and replaced with pieces that did not contain the pink hues. Buyer and builder were both happy.
On another occasion the Fream’s stopped by to check on the beautiful, durable slate-like laminate that they’d chosen for their kitchen and utility hallway. They found that the floor pattern did not line up with the walls! The flooring subcontractor suggested that the wall might not be straight, so the Freams immediately contacted Ben Myers. He came to the site, checked the wall placement and, finding no error, contacted the floor installer and requested that the floor be taken up and replaced so that the pattern would be straight. Neither the exterior stone coloring or the laminate floor problem cost the Freams an extra penny. Ben handled both situations in an honest, business-like manner and the building continued on budget!
This was Greg and Nancy Fream’s long-awaited “dream home.” Mr. and Mrs. Fream, Ben Myers and the J.A. Myers crews worked TOGETHER to make this home TRULY a dream come true!
